Information Reports

We have been learning to write information reports on healthy eating.  Hopefully you can learn some tips from us!

More information reports can be read on individual blogs - follow the links on the right.

Healthy Eating
Did you know vitamin c is mostly in the skins of every fruit but only eat some skins like apple skin. It's not that hard to live a happy and healthy life. All you have to do is just eat fruits and veggies you like everyday.

Even though healthy food doesn't taste like chocolate or lollies, you should still eat it. You should eat healthy foods because they are packed full of vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre. These nutrients are really good for you. If you eat healthily you will get strong, fit and healthy. You will have a better chance of not having cancer, and other diseases and you won't die at an early age.

Since there are so many healthy foods in the world, here are some examples you could try! If you have cereal or sandwiches for breakfast you should put some fruit on the cereal. For example, bananas, raisins and berries. If you have sandwiches you should put vegetables in it. For example, lettuce, onion, spinach, tomatoes and beetroot. You should eat at least 5 plus a day of fruit and vegies. Three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit.

Even though eating healthy foods are good for you, you still don’t want to eat too much, so you need to have a balanced diet. Everyday you want to have a good amount of healthy foods and sugar as well. You need to have a good amount of sugar in your body because if you don’t your blood sugars will drop and then you will be very tired and sick. You should eat grains, rice, cereal etc because that gives you fibre, carbohydrates and sustained energy. Everyone should drink milk because it gives you calcium which is good for your bones. If you eat and drink some of these foods everyday, it should help you live on a balanced diet.

Remember to eat two servings of fruit and three servings of vegetables. If you eat healthily you will live a happier and longer life, but you don’t want to eat too much because you can get fat and maybe diabetes if you eat lots of sugars. Next time when you buy food and you think it's healthy, check the label before you buy it!

Eating Healthily

Have you ever been in a situation where you realise, that you’ve been eating too many chips on the couch? To prevent that, you should probably know how much healthy foods help and why. You should also know what foods to eat and how much you should eat in a day.

When we eat healthy foods, it gives us the good stuff we need in a day. We eat healthy foods because we need it, otherwise we’ll lack in iron, protein, minerals, etc. Different foods give different things, that’s why we eat different colours in 5+ a day. The energy in junk food wears out quickly, but healthy foods give a big energy boost for the day. Also healthy foods help you not to get sick, get diabetes, or get diseases.

If you’re trying to stay in good shape, then these foods may be necessary. Try adding fruits and veggies to your meals, like banana in your cereal, fruit and crackers in your morning tea. Ham and lettuce sandwich for lunch and rice and a bit of meat and veggies for dinner. Sushi could be an option for any of the meals. There are alternatives like tofu or nuts instead of meat to get the protein you need in a day. Treats should be eaten occasionally only, because they carry lots of bad fat and calories, and have energy that doesn’t last that long, compared to fresh fruit and veggies. Spinach is recommended because it's a super food containing lots of good stuff, like minerals, fibre, calcium, etc.

If you’re eating too much of one thing, then you should change part of your diet to balance it. Humans are omnivores, we eat plants and meat. Every food can give you good fat and bad fat, so eat only about 5 servings of fruit and veggies and about 1 serving of meat, don’t forget about bread, pasta and rice, those should be eaten with meat and veggies.

A good body is created by eating the right selection of foods, not eating less amounts. We eat food to give us the important fibre, protein, iron, etc, but we need to eat them at the right time. A person eating a lot of veggies is good, but eating a variety is better. The next time you make your meal, think about balancing the amount of food you eat and you’ll be living a healthier life.

Healthy Eating

Do you want to live a healthy life? Junk food satisfies you for a minute, but being healthy satisfies you for life. You might not notice it, but eating healthily is actually easy. You will be impressed how much you’ve changed after about one week of healthy eating.

Why should we eat healthy foods?
Even though healthy food doesn’t taste as yummy as junk food and sweets, it is still good for you. Fruit and vegetables taste great and are jam-packed with vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre to help stay fit and healthy. Healthy foods contain vitamins and other nutrients that can reduce stress, which can compromise the immune system and help you to not have such problems as heart disease and stroke. You will also highly likely not get any sickness.

What are some examples of healthy foods?
Since there are so many healthy foods to choose from, here are some recommendations. Starting your day off with a wholesome breakfast is a great start to your day. You could have some toast, cereal, or oats with a piece of fruit to start your 5+ a day, and also a glass of milk. For morning tea, you could try a sandwich with some veggies inside, or if you're bored of having sandwiches, you might like carrot or celery sticks and you could have it with some hummus. Another great idea is fruit kebabs with some berries, banana, grapes and kiwi fruit or kebabs with meat. Lunch might be a bowl of rice with some curry or cooked veggies. Tacos with some meat, diced lettuce, pieces of capsicum and maybe a bit of cream or sauce would be a healthy, yummy dinner. You should also try homemade burgers with homemade patties, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and a bit of mayo to get in your veggies, grains, protein, and a bit of dairy. Instead of having a fizzy drink, you should try some fresh orange juice without sugar, it should taste as nice as a fizzy drink. Once a week, you can have a treat or two.

What is a balanced diet?
If you are eating too much junk food and sugar, then you should go on a diet to eat more healthy foods. You don’t have to eat less, you just have to eat right. A balanced diet is when you eat less sweets or junk food, but still eat enough. Everyone should be eating their 5+ a day to stay healthy, which includes two fruits and three vegetables, but remember, you can eat more if you want. Don’t forget about the grains (rice, bread, pasta, etc), proteins (meat, fish, nuts, beans, etc), and dairy products (milk, cheese, butter, etc).

Remember, you don’t have to eat less, you just have to eat right, because junk food satisfies you for a minute, but being healthy satisfies you for life. Next time you buy packaged food, look again. Does it really have enough goodness to keep you going?

Healthy food

Are you sick of being tired? Most of it comes from not eating healthily. It is easy to eat healthy, all you have to do is eat the right things.

If you do not like healthy food, then my advice will help you on a better life. If you don’t eat healthy food you might get diseases. Veggies and and fruit are jam-packed with vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre to make you live a better and longer life.

If you’re trying to stay in good shape, then these foods may be necessary. Carrots are very good for your eyes. Carrots may not be nice but it is good for you. Bananas are nice and even better to be on your breakfast, I assure you it’s delicious. You should eat veggies and fruits five times a day they’re good for your health.

When you eat a balanced diet, you live a longer life. A balanced diet is when you eat  all the right things. The right things might be fruit, grains, and vegetables. If you like chocolate, you can have that once a week because it keeps your sugar level high. That's a balanced diet.

Make sure you eat healthily so you can be fit and strong. A balanced diet isn't eating less, it’s about eating right.

Can you solve the rest?

Today in maths we were problem solving in teams. We were trying to find every number from 1 to 20 using only four 4s.  This meant that we had to use the number 4 four times, but we could use any operation.

Once a group had a solution they would write it only board next to the number the equation came to.

We also needed to remember the order of operations (BEDMAS)
1. Brackets
2. Exponents
3/4. Division/Multiplication
5/6. Addition/Subtraction

Here are the solutions so far.  Check to see that they are correct and if you solve any more, add the solutions in as a comment.

I Spy!

As part of Book Week students could take part in an I Spy! competition.  They needed to make a page with a picture and clues about what could be spotted in the picture.  This is based off the I Spy! series of books that the students enjoy.

Click on the pictures to make them larger, and so you can play I Spy!

Te Tuhi Art Workshop

Last week Room 20 visited Te Tuhi Art Centre.  We were very lucky to participate in an Art Workshop "Stories from the Pacific".

We learnt about Pacific Tapa. We learnt how they are made, what symbols are used on them in different Pacific nations and the importance of them in the lives of Pacific people.

Room 20 students needed to think of symbols to use in their art that represented their culture, interests, family and special place. These were used on their own tapa.

It was a great learning experience, especially learning about cultures that are in our community.

Term 2 Art Week and Art Exhibition

In term 2 our school had an art week.  We needed to create a cultural art piece to exhibit at our school art exhibition.

Room 20 learnt about the Japanese sakura ("cherry blossoms") and their significance to the Japanese people.  We then made our own sakura blossoms out of recycling egg cartons and painting them the colours of the flowers. We connected our blossoms using nylon and created a collective installation.

Below are photos of our installation and the process of making our art work.

Character Descriptions

We are learning to write a character description that includes external (outside) and internal (inside) traits.

Hayley!

A smart, intelligent and beautiful girl named Hayley is sweet sugar, as responsible as a teacher and as positive as fox.

This lovely girl has blue eyes, as blue as the sky and soft, curly blonde hair as bright as the sun.  Hayley prefers to wear a black, leather skirt.  She is as skinny as a pencil and looks classy with those dark sneakers.  Hayley is adventurous and is active outdoors.  Hayley is trustworthy, independent and as brave as a lion.

RO,MON
Ro,mon is half kangaroo and half panda. She has two sisters and a baby panda. She has good skin and long legs with short arms and a long tail. She is purple green and pink, she has blue eyes. She is funny , bubbly, happy and sometimes angry and sometimes she is sad. She has a warm and soft heart and sometimes she is as sad as a raincloud.

Murk

Murk is the craziest zombie ever to live in the swamp. He is Stupider than a log and he gets into random fights with hunters in The swamp. His knee always has a knife stuck in there because he’s Very unlucky. His favourite food is KFC, but he never gets the right thing because he can’t speak. He has never sobbed because he can’t feel pain. He is so green, you would think he was sick all day. The eyes are like the yellow of mouldy cheese. Their body is skinny so his teared clothes never fit. His feet are so wide and short. His hair is so bushy ,he can hide as a black shrub in the swamp. Murk’s nose is the most weird looking, purple nose ever, that you’d think that it got trampled by king kong. His ears and fingers are screwed up cause they’re broken.
